Family Friendly Australia

Family Friendly is about building Australia's most comprehensive Family Friendly directory for tourism, accommodation, dining, shopping, organisations and services.

The Family Friendly objective is to take away doubt and uncertainty for families with nationally uniform signage symbolising; ‘this is a welcoming, appropriate, safe and enjoyable venue for you and your family’.

The Family Friendly businesses in this directory have not only identified the need to be Family Friendly, but to provide stroller access to their premises and be responsive to the special needs of parents and children in an often busy and distracting environment.

Research commissioned in 2005 by Family Matters! Singapore and MCYS(Ministry of Communuty Development, Youth and Sports) indicates that:

Family Friendly businesses enjoys 5% - 10% more sales than less family-friendly ones
Food & Beverage businesses that are Family Friendly enjoy 15% more sales

Electronic survey run on two independent national websites - Playgroup Australia (www.playgroupaustralia.com.au) & Business Mums Network (www.businessmums.com.au)

· 85% of respondents do the majority of their shopping accompanied by their children

· 91% of respondents have experienced the inability to make a purchase due to distractions from children

· 93% of respondents would prefer to visit a store or business that provided a safe play product to occupy children

“Family Friendly will continue to enhance the lives of families across Australia. By awarding our ‘seal of approval’ to suitable facilities across the entire range of day to day family activities, we will provide ‘at a glance’ identification with our unique signage and the phrase “Families are always welcome where you see this sign”.

We are extensively promoting accommodation/resort and dining businesses that meet our criteria. By observing the information and images on web pages, we identify that they are family friendly, applying an immense emphasis on the importance of family’s within their premises.

We are able to produce a teaser page and directly link it to yours, hence giving the accommodation or entertainment consumer a broader customer base, whom encourage Families to use their facilities.

Many family friendly businesses are now providing a small 'children's area' equipped with clean, safe toys and books. These areas provide a welcome distraction for children so Mum or Dad can browse, shop and conduct their business in a calm and less hurried manner.
